ScpServerTray.exe Error account name is not valid

When I launch Task Scheduler I keep getting a error SolarWinds SCP Server Tray App Startup Task and a Users ID: This specified account name is not valid.  It is an old admin who set up SolarWinds but I can't seem to find where to change the user ID?  Does anyone know where to change that user ID.

Thanks

No VM search in Virtualization Summary page

We have Virtualization Manager 8.1 in Orion. No separate appliance. There doesn't appear to be a way to search for a VM on the Summary page. If I don't know what host a VM is on it can be a long process to find.  Is there someway to do this?

How to create a report which will identify all nodes where the last attempt to SNMP poll has failed

$

Has anyone done this using what's available out of the box rather than through a SQL query? Cisco Prime offers this as you can sort nodes based on 'SNMP connectivity failed' This would be a very handy feature. I know you can set up an alert to fire when SNMP polling failed but instead of sifting through alerts it would be great to have all these nodes in one place so you can do a tidy up. Cheers guys!

Adding Nodes that can only be viewed by the group that entered them

Not sure if the title is correct so hope this clears up the questions.  We have been using NPN for a few years and have several nodes entered.  We now have other divisions that want to start to add there nodes into NPM.  What we want to do is allow the division to add there node but only they will see what nodes they have entered and not see the nodes others have added.  I can not find anything in Solarwinds documentation or here on THWACK.  Is there anyway this is possible?

SolarWinds Certified Professional Exams are Live

The SolarWinds Academy is excited to announce the official launch of the new and completely updated SolarWinds Certified Professional® program.

Based on the feedback from SCPs around the world, we focused on two key aspects of the program that needed attention: creating lasting value for SCPs and helping SCPs succeed.

We want to create lasting value.

We created the SCP program in 2009 because we knew our customers wanted to demonstrate that they have the skills needed to manage networks effectively using SolarWinds products. Unfortunately, as time passed, the program did not grow with our products. The SolarWinds certification became outdated, and did not hold enough value to be a competitive player on the global IT stage.

To create lasting value, we made two key changes:

  • Relevance: To help ensure IT professionals have knowledge of the most current SolarWinds products, the SCP exams will now be updated with each new product release
  • Security: The SCP exams are now provided through online, proctored services so that the world knows that the holder of a SolarWinds certificate is the person who earned it

We want IT professionals to feel pride and a sense of achievement at becoming an SCP.

We want our customers to succeed.

Our customers’ success drives everything we do. Because the world of IT is always growing and changing, continuing education is an integral part of being a successful IT pro. To encourage continued growth, we added several benefits that members can use to increase their knowledge.

New benefits include:

  • SCP webcasts
  • SCP online advanced training
  • SCP invitations to live events
  • SCP study hours with SolarWinds experts
  • Access to select GNS3® courses
  • For SCPs working for SolarWinds customers under active maintenance, you will be recognized as an SCP member within the support system and provided with an enhanced support experience

For our members who can’t participate in a live webcast, we’ll record all events and post videos only available to SCPs, along with the comments that you can view as often as you need.

SCP online advanced training: We’re offering advanced-level training for members who want to gain a deeper understanding of SolarWinds products. Our experienced SolarWinds Academy trainers are dedicated to providing the most up-to-date and comprehensive courses for SCP members. Join exclusive live WebEx® classes and interact with SolarWinds Academy trainers and other SCP members.

Invitations to live events: Our live events are not only an excellent way to learn more about SolarWinds products, but also provide opportunities to network with other SolarWinds Certified Professionals and SolarWinds team members. Collaborate, network, and get awesome swag all in one place.

You spoke. We listened.

Because we truly believe in the success of our customers through continued education, we don’t want personal finances to be a determining factor of whether a person participates in the new SCP program. Our SCP subscription plan will be available for purchase in the THWACK® store in the coming weeks. For 60,000 THWACK points, you will be able to purchase* a one-year SCP subscription. The more active you are on THWACK, the more points you earn. We will update this thread when the exam becomes available for purchase in the store.

*For select countries only - US, CA, UK, DE

Additionally, our THWACK MVPs, will receive one free SCP exam a year. Click here to learn more on how to achieve this status.

We hope that the new SolarWinds Certified Professional program brings you value and enhances your knowledge of SolarWinds products. If you have any questions, please review our FAQs, ask us on THWACK, or send an email to certification@solarwinds.com.

I need to create a template to include a service monitor which stays green when not running and red when running.   How would you do that? I don't see any option available in my SAM 6.5.

Agent failing to resolve DNS

$

Ok so we have a massive issue with our agents. Our pollers are all on one domain like xyz.is.company.net but many of our nodes are like abc.cos.company.com. Since the agents use the short name, the agent tries to resolve the name as xyz.cos.company.com and fails. there are 45 domains in our network so alot of these agents restart, fail and then we have to manually go in and add the ip or FQDN and it works again. The issue again comes in if you move the agent to a new poller since it again cannot resolve the poller FQDN. We are trying to add the is.company.net to the DNS resolution path, but is there anyway to have the agents resolve a full FQDN or an IP instead of the short name which is ridiculous at best.

Alerting on Cisco Chassis Modules and Cisco Stack Switch UP/DOWN

$

Hey THWACK community,

Our company has been having some struggles with alerting on individual modules/blades/stack_member UP/DOWNs. We also have been having issues with notifications on individual switch stack (i.e. Cisco 3650 stacks) and chassis blade/module (i.e. a blade in a Cisco 4500 and 6500 chassis) members not coming up with the main device after a power outage. To the NOC, the node will report back as up, but, a small part of the switch will still be degraded which can translate to a small business unit. Often, the NOC hears from the end-user that they are down which is not optimal for operations as well as leads to increased down-time for the business unit.

We are interested in companies that have been using Orion for this alerting type who would be a good resource for us to chat with.

Thanks for the help!

OTV Monitoring with NPM?

$

Hello, we are trying to figure out a way for NPM to monitor and alert on OTV status on our OTV VDC's.  Here is the condition we need to monitor and alert:

222-N7009-A-OTV# sh otv

OTV Overlay Information

Site Identifier 0000.2000.0020

Overlay interface Overlay1

VPN name            : Overlay1

VPN state           : DOWN (Cleanup In Progress)

Extended vlans      : 2100-2103 2131 3801-3803 (Total:8)

Control group       : 239.20.0.1

Data group range(s) : 232.20.1.0/24

Broadcast group     : 239.20.0.1

Join interface(s)   : Po55 (X.X.X.X)

Site vlan           : 970 (up)

AED-Capable         : No (Overlay is Down)

Capability          : Multicast-Reachable

The interface for Overlay1 was up so can't use that.

I did some searching on THWACK and could not find anything to do this.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,
Rick

Using Linux/Unix Script Monitor to parse CURL output - McAfee EPO template

$

I'm trying to get Orion Linux/Unix Script Monitor to parse a CURL output.  I have the bash command to get the output, what I can't seem to do is make Orion see the Message Statistic fields at the end of the script.  I need someone to tell me what I'm missing.

First my CURL statement, and the output I get on my Linux box, command first and output right after:

[USER@SERVER tmp]$ x=`curl -s -k -u user:'password' 'https://192.168.1.1:8443/remote/core.executeQuery?target=DC_VW_OSS_STATUS&select=(select%20DC_VW_OSS_STATUS.AvgReqProcessTime)&where=(eq%20DC_VW_OSS_STATUS.IPAddress%20"10.100.31.59")' | grep Average` printf "Message:AvgScan:\n";printf "\t$x" | awk -F: {'print $1'} | printf "Statistic:AvgScan:\t";y=`echo "$x" | awk -F: {'print $2'} |  tr -d '\015'`;printf "\t$y\n"

Message:AvgScan:

Statistic:AvgScan:               0.017518

What Orion tells me when I run this script:

NDGet Output Failed:  Invalid script output. Unable to parse 'Statistic' as number

I'm all but convinced, at this point, that I simply am not outputting the "Message / Statistic" fields right.  Can someone good with creating templates help?

WPM Playback Intermittently Down

$

Hey All,

so this is the issues that we have for couple of transactions that we have:

  • The transaction intermittently failing on the playback - upon seeing the details it appears that the steps stuck on loading the next page, and the next page never show up, hence the playback shown as down - the site itself is not down or having any issues, tested and verified this many times already so I believe that the issue is with the WPM not the sites. This is happening for some of our transactions, with various occurrences, some site like o365 seemingly failed more often than others. The issue happening in totally random occurrences, which makes it very difficult to diagnose. We tried to run the player on different server, even setup one server for testing, but the issue is still there, so I'm convinced that the server is not the issue. The player running on Windows Server 2012 R2.
  • Recording working fine, tested the transactions using the recorder many times, but never failed even once.
  • I found this old discussion: https://thwack.solarwinds.com/thread/100415 which seems to have the similar issues. I have tried to set maxPlaybacksPerWorker to 1 per that thread but doesn't solve the issue, although it appears that it slightly improves the situation but not solving the issue. I have also tried to do the XY recordings, but that doesn't solve the issues as well.
  • I have also taken out Antivirus out of the equation, tested to run on test server with no antivirus and it makes no difference.

I have an open case with support, but wondering if anybody have similar issues? And if so, do you find any solutions?

Thank you

Windows Event Log Monitoring in a nested log directory

I am trying to alert on an specific event ID in the Microsoft\Exchange\HighAvailability\Operational log.  Thus far, I have not had any luck with the syntax.

In the Template, there is a place to select the "Log to Monitor", and so I choose custom.  I have tried Microsoft-Exchange-HighAvailability\Operational (the way it appears in the Event Viewer), Microsoft\Exchange\HighAvailability\Operational, Microsoft-Exchange-HighAvailability-Operational, but none return any data.

Any sage advice?

Folders in WHD

We are new to WHD. Trying to figure out how to categorize projects and view them as such. Example; I often have several large projects that are similar in scope. Each project has multiple tasks. I'd like to view the Project as a whole and all tasks associated with it, without seeing every task when I view my tickets. That creates a view with hundreds of tickets and is impossible to sift through. I need a way to have child tickets hidden in that view, perhaps with a carat dropdown to view them on a per-task basis. This has been a very basic feature in other helpdesk software we've tried and is essential for our needs. I'm sure I'm just missing something obvious, but have been searching for quite some time and haven't come across what I'm looking for. Thoughts?

Slow snmpwalking (using Orion GUI tool).

$

We had a WLC (one of many) which this morning decided to (wrongly) report 1/2 of its APs as down this morning.

The network guys quickly realised that the APs were up, so blame went to monitoring.

At the time, I did not know the OIDs in question, so opened the Solarwinds SNMPwalk tool and started walking the device, trying to capture the SNMP state and prove that SolarWinds is working correctly.

That was at about 10:30am this morning.

Some 5 hours later, the damn SNMPwalk is still 'walking' the same device.

Here is 14:29 until 15:10, in which it did (walked) a few thousand OIDs.

40 odd minutes of SNMPwalking - and still going!

The APs reported up long ago, very much doubt I caught them being down, so cannot prove if it was the device or the monitoring.

And left scratching my head as to why SNMPwalk is soooooooo slooooooow today.

Email Reply to Clients Outside Domain

Hi all. I thought this was a checkbox somewhere but I can't find it. I want to send a reply to people outside our domain when they create a ticket by email. So, joeschmo@gmail.com sends an email that creates a ticket, he should get a confirmation that the ticket was created. How do I set this up?

Taking it one step further, I do not want him to get ANY updates on the ticket until it's resolved. Is this possible as well?

Thanks

I passed my SCP last week and was told at the end in the chat window that I'd receive a breakdown via email however although I've received my certificate I haven't yet received any score or breakdown. Was I miss informed or should I receive a score at some point? I would be very interested to know my actual result. Will there be a Thwack badge for SCP?
